Welcome to the first chapter in the Building wonder-ful futures, by MVRDV. In this module, we'll discuss MVRDV, its approach to sustainability, contribution to building resilience and livable cities and working with the SDG’s, insights into MVRDV Climate team with their tools, CSR reporting about operations and inclusivity.
Hello and welcome back. In this chapter, we'll explore more in detail, scaling up in order to understand the solutions created at local scale will also enable larger scale resilience on a regional level of cities and countries. We will explore more on the question how can large scale thinking foster scalable building technologies and methods? We will focus on three larger scale issues and what we do on a building scale: water, social issues and carbon.
In Sea2City Vancouver we reflected on the question how we can reconnect communities and local people with the water through climate adaptation to create positive future for the city.
How can communities be strengthened through technical upgrades? We will study these through two projects Chengdu Sky Valley and Resilient by Design.
We will reflect on the question that how can masterplans influence building carbon footprint? Two projects that we will discuss more in detail about La Grande Mosaique, Caen, France and Dusseldorf B8 Center, Germany where we are trying to reduce carbon footprint. We will look into carbon - embodied carbon and operational carbon, how to optimize and reduce embodied carbon in the masterplan scale but also taking other aspects of building resilience and sustainability into account.
Hello and welcome back. In this chapter, we'll explore more in detail, about the innovative sustainable strategies and topics in detail which we as a designer have influence on. We will zoom into each of these individually through examples of projects - carbon, circularity, climate adaptation, health, social return, nature inclusivity. All of these topics are present in each project but we will go through exemplary projects for each of them.
Building industry is contributing carbon emissions throughout the world and through our building designs.
We will focus on circularity in this topic. Circularity in a broader sense is that we are trying to reduce the amount of depletion of building materials.
