Concept

In this lifeless world full of exhausted people, there has been an introduction of a colorful design under the bridge. The design is sustainable and can be moulded into any place in India. The design aims to introduce colors into people’s lives and daily schedules. In a world where technology has taken over, our intent is to get back to community living, knowing people around us, and being close to our neighbors. When the entire world is talking about waste management and sustainability, we can also be a part of the drive and use all the waste in the locality and make the best of the waste around. We have also proposed food kiosks to solve the problem of encroachments in and around Delhi. Delhi loves food and talented kiosk owners will bring it to every corner of the city with a space of their own. The concept of the proposal is based on sustainability, inclusivity of all citizens, and community interactions.

Giving back to the City

Our proposal, ‘The Happy highway ’ is designed to accommodate the changing needs of a place and its people. A modular unit 3m in height is replicated throughout the length of the highway, wherever required. Weekly bazaars, food socials, sports activities and commerce can all happen under the same roof. Furthermore, apart from the community as a whole, the design focuses on the needs of individuals as well. Keeping in theme with the city’s green initiatives, a Miyawaki forest consisting of small and medium sized shrubs is introduced after the stretch comprising the above mentioned activities. The Miyawaki forests are great for the environment and act as a large vessel for carbon sequestration. Along with this, bio-swales as well as porous footpaths are introduced for the effective drainage of the storm water. Thus, our proposal aims at addressing the needs of the community, individuals and the Environment as well.

The huge problem in urban cities is lack of social interaction and Urban Heat Island.

  • The site is chosen in such a way that it would be a community hub for the localities as well as tourists.
  • To reduce the problem of UHI and to promote sustainability and socio- cultural interaction, an open and green park space is proposed.
  • Upcycled urban waste and surgical masks could be used as a sustainable building material. Also, spaces like performance centers, cafeteria, and small shops could be integrated to promote revenue generation.
  • The concept of a ribbon was chosen to allow for the free flowing of spaces.
  • The park could promote health and well-being of people through the addition of small activities and equipment, thus holistically promoting sustainability and well-being of the people and the surroundings.
